In this video we will take a much deeper look at procrastination, and not wanting to do something, especially the thing we want to be doing, but which we don’t have the motivation for. If you’re someone who has been controlled, pressured and forced as a child to do things you didn’t want to do, then it’s highly likely you have an issue with procrastination.
Many of us grew up not wanting to go to school, being told we had to participate in outdoor or musical activities that we didn’t want to do, and we felt we had no other choice than to abide by the rules. Growing up like that means eventually we get really comfortable with being forced, pressured, pushed into things, feeling powerless, and without a choice. All of these feelings and conditions are created inside of us. As we get older, we are so familiar with those feelings that we continually put ourselves in the same types of situations. Even though we want to do something, we start to believe that we don’t want to do it until we get to the point when we then have to force, push and pressure ourselves – as that feels more familiar. If you’ve ever said to others, “when under pressure I strive and do so much better,” then you’re likely holding this subconscious pattern inside yourself.
